Beaches
Aruba's beaches are renowned for being some of the finest in the World. There are beaches
lined with luxurious resorts and beaches that are secluded and private. Some beaches feature
quiet water where you can relax with a float, kayak or hobie cat. There are beaches for those
who would rather swim in the surf with a few waves and beaches with crashing surf where
you shouldn't swim at all. But they all have fine powder-white sand produced by the incessant
grinding of shells by the sea.
Remember, all beaches in Aruba are public, there are no lifeguards and there is no cost
to use them. However the beach chairs and sun shelters known as "chickees" or "palapas"
are the property of the hotels. Some hotels will sell non-guests a day pass for their use.

Palm Beach is the world acclaimed hotel strip with the glamour and glitz of the big
name resorts and is dotted by shops, watersports centers and restaurants. The water
is calm and perfect for swimming all along it's two mile length.

Home to many of Aruba's laid back "low rise" resorts, Eagle Beach offers miles of white
powder sand and friendly surf. Eagle Beach is accessible by public bus, car or taxi, and
only 5 minutes from the capital city of Oranjestad. Visitors can glimpse an underwater
paradise by taking advantage of snorkeling opportunities here - the crystal
blue waters make for world class conditions. There are plenty of palapa-style
shelters, if you feel like relaxing with a good book.

|
Druif Beach is between Oranjestad and Eagle Beach offering calm waters and a powdery
white sand beach. Popular for walking along the shore, this beach is never crowded and
has a number of public palapa style sun shades. There are no services here but several
low rise hotels are just across the street.

One of the best beaches for learning to snorkle or windsurf. The popular dive spot, the
large shipwreck of the "Antilla" is just offshore. Many small coral bays filled with colorful
fish are just ten fgeet offshore. Accessible by car, taxi or bus, there are no facilities.

Originally created for refinery workers in the 1940's, this beach is surrounded by a breakwater,
resulting in a giant wading pool no more than five feet deep and full of colorful fish.
With powdery sand, it's perfect for a family outing, bring your snorkle gear. Busy on the
weekends, facilities are limited to washrooms and a food stand. Accessible by car or taxi.

The northernmost beach on the island, located within sight of the California Lighthouse and
usually uncrowded, features calm, clear waters. No facilities, just a few beach huts for shade.

A small beach on the edge of Oranjestad with shallow water and no waves. The local fishermen
moor their small boats here and there is a restaurant where you can watch the planes landing
and taking off from the airport across the bay. Accessible by car, taxi or bus.

A favorite pastime along the beach here is to join the locals in dune sliding. Sneakers
and a strong pair of jeans are definitely encouraged.
